Tower of the Juche Idea, Immortal Grand Monument

The Tower of the Juche Idea is a monumental edifice of the era of the Workers’ Party reflecting the greatness and vitality of the Juche idea created by President Kim Il Sung.

The tower is located on the riverside of the Taedong River in the eastern part of Pyongyang opposite Kim Il Sung Square.

On the front and back sides of the tower body the letters "Juche" are carved in bold relief. The tower is 170 metres tall and is topped with a 20-metre-high torch weighing 45 tonnes.

The Tower of the Juche Idea makes up a big architectural group; the main thematic group sculpture portraying a worker, peasant and intellectual, and sub-thematic group sculptures centring on the tower, pavilions flanking it and two fountains in the centre of the Taedong River present an epical scene on a vast expanses of 35 hectares.

Exhibited in the tower are 300-odd precious stones sent by state leaders and famous political and social personages of over 100 countries.

The tower was unveiled on April 15, Juche 71(1982) on the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
