The Pyongyang Grand Theatre is situated near the picturesque Taedong River in Central District of Pyongyang.

The theatre which covers a total-floor space of 30 000 ㎡ is a monumental edifice in peculiar architectural style of our nation.

With giant Korean-style roofs, it looks like a group of cranes starting up to the sky.

It was built in August, Juche 49(1960) at the proposal of President Kim Il Sung.

The theater, a meaningful place with a lot of revolutionary historic relics, boasts of its unique architecture.

Such revolutionary operas as "The Sea of Blood," "The Flower Girl," "Tell O Forest," "A True Daughter of Party" and "Song of Mt Kumgang" were staged and various political events including the Fourth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and artistic performances given on many occasions at the theatre.

Thus, the Pyongyang Grand Theatre is a proud grand palace of Juche-oriented theatrical art as well as an eyewitness of important events in the glorious course of the development of our Republic.

At present, it has been rebuilt as required by the developing era and greatly contribute to the dissemination of art and people’s cultural and emotional life.
