The May Day Stadium, located on Rungna Islet in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, is a comprehensive and modern mass sports service center conducive to the country’s sports development and the cultural and emotional life of the people.

The stadium has a football ground with 150 000 seats, track, referees room, inspection registration room coincident with the international standards, and sports and cultural and welfare facilities and service facilities including swimming pool, table tennis ground and room for relieving fatigue.

The stadium could be remodeled as required by the present era thanks to the initiative and meticulous guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

One day in September Juche 102 (2013), he visited the May Day Stadium and looked round various places with his grand plan to turn it into a proud stadium in the world.

That day he set forth the task for remodeling the stadium and personally solved all the issues arising in the remodeling, saying that the remodeling of the stadium is an important work for further developing the Juche-based sports and demonstrating the national power and civilization of the country amid the ever-growing sports enthusiasm.

He visited the renovation site in June the next year and stressed the need to carry out the project in a creative and innovative way with the Juche-oriented and world-wide insight, guiding the colors of the seats and other detailed elements.

In October that year he watched a women’s football match together with Pyongyang citizens at the May Day Stadium, which was successfully remodeled as a symbol of the sports facilities of the country, and gave precious instructions for turning the stadium into an important base for developing the country’s sports and making a positive contribution to the people’s cultural and emotional life.

Since the stadium was face-lifted, diverse political and sports and cultural events and sports games have taken place with splendor.
