DPRK Premier Inspects Agricultural Sector and Rehabilitation of Flood-hit Areas of North Phyongan Province

Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, inspected the agricultural sector and the rehabilitation of flood-hit areas in North Phyongan Province.

Learning about the farming in Pakchon and Kwaksan counties, he called upon the agricultural officials to provide practical guidance over farming in order to successfully conclude this year’s farming, mindful of the importance of their duty in attaining the grain production goal set by the Party.

He stressed the need for farms to put spurs to raising the per-hectare yield to the maximum, correctly measure the ripening rate of rice ears in each area and field, and concentrate efforts and means on qualitatively finishing the rice harvesting in the right time.

He called for applying scientific methods to do early-ripening crops farming well next year on the basis of the successes and experience gained in the early crop farming this year, and carrying out without fail the plan for each immediate farming process including winter wheat and barley sowing.

At the sites for rehabilitating the flood-hit areas of Sinuiju City and Uiju County, he encouraged the builders who are devoting themselves to the projects, true to the noble intention of the Party Central Committee to provide the people in the flood-hit areas with a stable life as early as possible, and learned in detail about the projects.

He called upon the construction units to push forward with the construction projects as scheduled under a detailed plan and pay primary attention to ensuring quality in construction and strictly preserving the requirements of construction methods, given the projects including housing construction proceeding in a three-dimensional way in different areas.

The field consultative meetings took measures after discussing the issues of directing efforts to the study of farming techniques appropriate to weather conditions, properly keeping and managing the harvested grains, making good preparations for next year’s farming, increasing the proportion of mechanization in construction, building up the ranks of skilled workers, supplying materials and equipment in good time and paying deep attention to ensuring the living of builders.
