Woljong Temple
Woljong Temple showing the wisdom and talents of our ancestors is situated in Phaldam Valley of Mt Kuwol, a famous mountain in the country.
The temple built first in 846 is a historic relic of great significance in studying the architecture of the country in the Middle Ages as it has a long history and its structure and form are in good order mechanically.
It was repaired and rebuilt several times.
It consists of Manse Pavilion, Myongbu Temple, Suwol Hall and other accessory buildings with Kuknakbo Hall as a centre.
Kuknakbo Hall, a gabled house with double eaves has three Kans in front and two in side.
Its pillars are typical salient ones that cannot be found in other old buildings of the country.
Woljong Temple, a precious treasure of the country, has been preserved well in its original state thanks to the policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea on protecting the national heritages.
