Down-with-Imperialism Union

The Down-with-imperialism Union (DIU) formed by President Kim Il Sung in Huadian on Oct. 17, 1926, was a genuine revolutionary organization of the new-generation revolutionaries, the first of its kind in our country.

In the darkest period of Japanese imperialist colonial rule, the President planned to form a vanguard organization of the revolution and pushed ahead with the work for realizing it.

He, stressing the need for forming the organization at the meeting late in September, 1926, convened a preliminary meeting for it with the young core members whom he trained in person on Oct. 10 that year to clarify the name of the organization and its character, fighting programme and norms of activities.

Under such detailed preparation, he formed the DIU with passionate young people of the new generation on October 17, 1926.

The President said at the meeting that the immediate task of the DIU was to defeat Japanese imperialism and achieve the liberation and independence of Korea, and its final objective was to build socialism and communism in Korea and, further, destroy all imperialism and build communism throughout the world.

The programme of the DIU clearly was a Juche-oriented revolutionary programme which indicated the road ahead of the Korean revolution for the first time in the history by correctly reflecting the centuries-old desire of the socio-economic situation and class relationship, and a militant banner that vigorously led our people to the genuine road of the revolution.

The formation of the DIU was a historic declaration that heralded the new start of the Korean revolution, since then, the Korean revolution could advance based on the principle of independence, breaking with old era contaminated by flunkeyism and dogmatism.

The formation of the DIU also served as the starting point of the struggle for founding a new-type party of the working class, a Juche-type revolutionary party in our country, the principle of independence set forth by the DIU became the principle of the building and activities of our Party, and the young people of the new generation trained by the DIU, became the backbone of our Party founding.

The Workers’ Party of Korea takes its root in the DIU.

After its formation, the DIU has trained broad sections of workers, peasants, youth and students as revolutionaries of the new generation and made a great contribution to firmly laying the mass foundation of the revolution and developing the overall Korean revolution.
