Egg Rock of Mt Kumgang, Living Monument

The Egg Rock of Mt Kumgang, in Onjong-ri, Kosong County of Kangwon Province, is situated on Mt Takalbawi which is on the left of the entrance to Kuryong Falls from the Onjong Bridge of Outer Kumgang.

Granite of different hardness was weathered for a long time to form this rock.

The Egg Rock, which is of oval shape, is ７ meters high.

Its long circumference is ２０ to ２１ meters and the small one is １５ meters.

The bulky rock sets one of its edges on a flat and wide rock so that it seems as if it is going to roll down.

However, the rock remains still as it has a stable center.

It looks like an egg from any angle, hence its name the Egg Rock.

It has been described in lots of poems and songs from of old.

The Egg Rock of Mt Kumgang, which looks so peculiar and mysterious, is not only exceptional in terms of scenery and but also significant in view of scientific research.
