Peculiar Korean-style Roofing
The Korean-style roofing is a traditional roof style and roof shape which has been formed according to the emotion and taste of the Korean people.
From old times, the Korean people created the peculiar roof style suited to their emotional life and beautiful landscape.
The Korean-style roofing includes different roof styles; the main in particular are a gable roof, a hipped roof and a hip-saddle roof.
The gable roof is a double-slope roof which has the same length of the ridge and eaves.
The hipped roof is a four-sided roof having sloping ends and sides, so it has the shorter ridge when it compares with the gable roof. This aims at protecting the walls of buildings from snow and rain.
The hip-saddle roof is a beautiful and more developed roof which combines the gable roof with the hipped roof.
The hip-saddle roof is one of the main Korean-style roofs.
Such traditional roof styles now have been further developed and introduced in building of modern architecture such as the Grand People’s Study House, the People’s Palace of Culture, the Pyongyang Grand Theater and other monumental edifices as well as modern rural dwelling houses which are being built in the new era of rural rejuvenation.
