Remarkable House-moving Custom

From of old, it is a custom of our people’s life to turn out for building new houses and help those who move into the new houses regarding it as their own pleasure.

In the past one or two families moved into new houses at a time.

However, in the era of the Workers’ Party of Korea, a remarkable custom of house-moving appeared in our country. People collectively move into the new houses of new streets or modern housing districts.

On the house-moving days, neighbours, relatives, friends and colleagues help those who move into new houses by carrying household goods and furniture and giving kinds of necessities to them. It has become a matter of courtesy.

Meanwhile, merry dancing parties are held in residential districts and areas where ceremonies of house-moving take place and they have photos taken with the new houses and street for a background.

At present, a lot of modern houses have been erected in the capital city and rural areas to be provided to the people free of charge thanks to our Party’s far-reaching plan for the capital city construction and new regional development policy. So, the custom of house-moving has been supplemented in various aspects.

The house-moving custom was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage on August ８, ２０２５.
