The Simwon Temple in Yonthan
The Simwon Temple in Yonthan County, North Hwanghae Province, is one of the excellent historical and cultural heritages of our people.
The Simwon Temple, located on the side of Mt Jabi, has long since been called a renowned mountain of Hwanghae Province for its beautiful scenery.
It consists of the Pogwang Hall which is the central building of the temple, the Chongphung Pavilion in front of it, temple dormitories for Buddhist monks on either side, a stele, etc.
The Pogwang Hall of the Simwon Temple in Yonthan County is one of the oldest among wooden buildings remaining in our country.
The temple reflects the superior architecture of our ancestors in the period of Koryo.
The pillars of the Pogwang Hall are swelled ones.
Side folding doors of the facade of the hall have stripes and the middle folding door peony and lotus pattern on them, thus making the hall more florid.
The Simwon Temple, which had been seriously destroyed during the Fatherland Liberation War, was restored to its former glory and has been well preserved thanks to our Party’s guidance on protecting national cultural heritages.
It helps toward implanting patriotism deep in our people’s minds.
