Starting Point of Turn of Our People’s Destiny, Day of Great Victory

８１ years have passed since our country was liberated.

August １５, １９４５ when President Kim Il Sung smashed the Japanese imperialists and achieved national liberation was for the Korean people a starting point of the turn of their destiny, when they regained the independent dignity that is as precious as their life itself, and is a day of great victory.

With the day of August １５, our people regained all that they had lost their sovereignty, territory, resources, history and culture and secured all possibilities for achieving their freedom and carving out their destiny, thus embarking with the dignity befitting masters on the road of their great pioneering cause of democratic development and wellbeing.

Peasants, who had to leave their beloved village as they hadn’t even a patch of land to seed, became the masters of the land and the country and hammered signposts carrying their own names into their own land thanks to the Agrarian Reform Law promulgated on March ５, １９４６, a year after the country was liberated.

Workers who were subjected to all manner of humiliation and contempt from the Japanese imperialists and capitalists at factories not better than a prison became genuine masters of factories and production means with the promulgation of the law on nationalization of major industries on August １０, １９４６.

Thanks to the Law on Sex Equality promulgated on July ３０, １９４６, our women who were vulnerable to double and treble exploitation and oppression of the Japanese imperialists, landlords and capitalists came to enjoy the same rights in all realms of political, economic and cultural life with men after regaining human dignity.

People of all walks of life became deputies discussing the state affairs, officials, model workers and farmers to make genuine contributions to the prosperity and well-being of the country and people.

The national liberation indeed was a historic event which brought about a fundamental turn in the destiny of our country and every human being.

The national liberation is a monument to national prosperity that our people have built on the foundations of independence and sovereignty which put an end to subordination and submission, and a watershed of dignity and glory in which they have demonstrated the new position and prestige of their country with unshakable consciousness of independence and through an indomitable struggle.
