Brilliant Name―Democratic People’s Republic of Korea

In building a country, it is of primary importance to define its name because it reflects the true appearance of the country.

President Kim Il Sung, when founding the Party after liberation, reflected the establishment of a democratic people’s republic in our country in its political line, and gave energetic guidance to this end.

The President thoroughly adhered to the Juche-oriented and popular stand in defining the country’s name.

The name of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea won absolute support and approval of all the people.

Our country’s name instituted by the President was the most justifiable and original one which suits the character and mission of our revolution and the actualities of our country.

The word "Korea" implies that our country is a new Korea where all the people are its masters and solve all the issues on their own.

The word "democratic" reflects the character of our revolution.

The word "people" clearly shows that our country is a dignified people’s country where the people have become the masters of the state and society and everything serves them.

The expression "democratic people’s republic" explains the form of state of our country.

On September ９, １９４８, the President founded the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and thereby made our people full-fledged independent people with their genuine country name.

Today, our country’s name exalts its honor as an esteemed name of a political and military power regarded by the progressive mankind as the beacon of hope and by the enemies as the byword for discomfort and terror.
