Another Scientific Guarantee for Increased Grain Production Secured


The scientists of the Onchon Rice Research Branch of Rice of the Rice Research Institute of the Academy of Agricultural Science succeeded in introducing cultivation technique of nutritive cold-bed rice seedlings into highly saline tideland for the first time in our country.

A significant research achievement for raising the per-hectare yield while greatly saving man-day and farming materials was made at a time when tideland farming is regarded more and more important, thus opening up a bright prospect for contributing to the attainment of grain production goal set by the Party.

True to the Party’s intention of regarding science and technology as the main driving force of agricultural development, the scientists of the research branch set a goal to establish a scientific cultivation technique for producing high yields in tideland and have conducted research activities for several years.

The scientists focused on breeding superior rice species suitable for different saline conditions and raised the efficiency of research work by actively applying latest science and technology.

They, who turned out to repay the love of the Party which remodeled theirs into a modern seed breeding base equipped with up-to-date equipment and devices with achievements in research work, made painstaking efforts to produce almost one salt-resistant rice species annually in recent years.

The members of the research team established our-style method of removing salt in the course of repeating experiments for finding out optimum options while researching and analyzing in detail the features of the soil salinity change effecting the growth of crops according to periods.

They also defined rational water management method which is a key link in the whole chain of introducing nutritive cold-bed rice seedling cultivation technique and solved lots of sci-tech problems.

Based on full preparations for introducing advanced farming technique, they introduced the cultivation technique of nutritive cold-bed rice seedlings in tens of hectares of area this year, the first year for implementing the decisions of the Ninth Party Congress.

They actively applied agricultural technological products including the seed coating material and non-soil substrate for rearing rice seedlings developed by the Institute of Agro-chemicalization and the Institute for Protection of Crops.

Consequently, they succeeded in introducing the cultivation technique of nutritive cold-bed rice seedlings in highly saline tideland.

The rice in the tideland is in excellent growth condition.

It is expected to increase the per-hectare yield by over one ton as against last year.

Lots of officials in the agricultural sector come to the research branch to exchange techniques and swap experience as concerns the introduction of advanced cultivation technology.

Practical measures are taken by the Agricultural Commission to introduce the nutritive cold-bed rice seedling cultivation technique into tideland farms across the country.

The officials and scientists of the research branch are pooling wisdom and efforts to effectively disseminate the advanced cultivation technique and further enhance the effectiveness of introduction.
