There is a thick forest of pine trees (Songdan) about 4 kilometers distant from the township of Riwon County in South Hamgyong Province.
The Songdan has been well known among our people as a famous scenic spot since long ago.
According to old history books, there were no pine trees but white sands.
People in the area had planted young pine trees in the white sandy beach and tended them attentively in order to prevent the effect of sea wind. Those young pine trees grew up forming a thick forest to display a beautiful scenery.

Now the Songdan is enjoying its fame as a beauty spot for the people thanks to the wise guidance of the Workers’ Party of Korea led by the respected General Secretary
