Living Monument in Hongwon County

Hongwon Soldo(the islets of pine trees) is a living monument in the township of Hongwon County.
It consists of 3 islets which lie east and west in a line.
In the 3rd period of the Cenozoic era, when the Korean East Sea region subsided, low hills became the islets and rose up a little for a long period.
By the action of the weather and abrasion the surroundings of the islets turned into sharp-cut cliffs.
The islets are formed of grano-gneiss.
The picturesque Hongwon Soldo has been designated as a living monument in the East Sea of Korea.
