Moran Hill is famous for its scenic beauty and many historic relics. Among them is the Ulmil Pavilion.
Its gable roof seems to take to the air when people look up the pavilion and to be a ship when people look down in the air.
The Ulmil Pavilion is a precious relic showing the creative wisdom and talents of our ancestors. It was built as a military commanding post in the mid-sixth century (Koguryo).
It has been also famous as one of eight scenes of Pyongyang (enjoying spring at Ulmil Pavilion). It has proud stories of the struggles of our ancestors against the foreign aggressors.
The Ulmil Pavilion was seriously damaged by the brutal bombings of the U.S. imperialists during the Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War).
It was reconstructed as before and has been preserved well, thanks to the policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea on national heritage preservation.
It serves as an observatory on which the visitors can enjoy a bird’s eye view of Pyongyang, a cultural recreation place for our people and a place for education in patriotism instilling national pride and self-confidence into the people.
