Nyongbyon is famous for its silk fabrics with long history together with Yaksandongdae, one of the eight scenic spots in the northwestern part of Korea.

Since long ago, the Nyongbyon area has been one of the leading producer of silk fabrics.

Once, saying that the true specialty of Nyongbyon is the silk fabrics and Nyongbyon was widely known as the silk fabrics producer from old days, President Kim Il Sung instructed that Nyongbyon County should increase cocoon production and produce more silk fabrics of quality by cultivating and managing well mulberry field.

Even though he was so busy after the Fatherland Liberation War, he saw in person the trial products of silk fabrics produced by the Nyongbyon Silk Mill and named them Yaksandan silk and Kuryongdan silk.

Chairman Kim Jong Il also visited the Nyongbyon Silk Mill several times and clarified the ways and means for the mill and led it to become the leading silk fabrics production base.

Under the wise leadership of the Worker’s Party of Korea, various beautiful silk fabrics produced in Nyongbyon County are very popular among our people.
