At that time, when the Kumgang defence line called the "line of no retreat" or the "last defence line" was smashed by the attack of the Korean People’s Army (KPA), the US imperialists introduced a huge amount of manpower, weapons and combat equipment into Taejon for checking the KPA’s advance.
Under such situation, the President visited the headquarters at the front on a mid-July day, Juche 39(1950), regardless of his life. He grasped the situation sharply and clarified the detailed tasks and ways for conducting the operation of liberating Taejon successfully.
He saw to it that the KPA units pushed away the puppet army units contiguous to the Taejon area to keep them from assisting the 24th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army and restrained while giving a compressive blow to the enemy from the north and northwest of Taejon and its flanks.
And he said that when the KPA’s combined units in charge of surrounding it by advancing southeastward of Taejon were delayed owing to the dogged resistance of the enemies, some forces of the units advancing to the Ronsan bounds should intercept the enemy’s retreat and the route of advance of its reinforcements by quickly going around southeastward of Taejon in order to completely surround the enemies in Taejon in a short time.
This Juche-oriented and unique encircling and bypassing operations were extraordinary and outstanding military stratagem which could be devised by only our President who had severely punished the Japanese imperialists, who posed themselves as "leader of Asia".
At 5 a.m. on July 20 in Juche 39(1950), the President issued an order on launching the general offensive for the Taejon liberation operation.
The 24th Infantry Division of the U.S. army, 1st and 7th divisions of the puppet army were completely annihilated and Taejon was liberated.
In the combat, the commander of the 24th Infantry Division of the US Army was captured by a young soldier of the KPA.
