Letter from a Member of Youth Shock Brigade

A few days ago, we received a letter from Han Won Gyong, a member of a shock brigade who had volunteered to work at the construction site of a new street in the Sopho area.

The letter told about the beautiful deeds of officials of the Taedonggang District Committee of the Socialist Women’s Union of Korea(SWUK) and residents living in the 27th neighborhood unit of Sagok-dong No.2 who take care of Han Won Gyong and her brothers with parental affection.

When her mother passed away, Han Won Gyong and her brothers did not know what to do in the future.

At that time, they were visited by Kang Sun Hui, chairwoman of the dong primary committee of SWUK, Kim Sung Hui, chairwoman of the primary committee of SWUK of the Taedonggang Housewives’ Production Cooperative, officials of the district committee of SWUK and their neighbors.

They embraced warmly Han and her brothers, saying that they were mothers of Han and her brothers and all of them were members of the same family.

Visiting Han and her brothers frequently, they learnt about the living condition and prepared the seasonal clothes for Han and her brothers.

On the birthdays, they gave the prepared souvenirs to Han and her brothers.

When Han Won Gyong volunteered to work at the construction site of a new street in the Sopho area, they sent relief materials and consolatory letters to her and devoted their affection to her brothers lest she should be concerned for her brothers.

Han Won Gyong wrote in the letter as follows:

"We are not orphans as we live in the blessed socialist system. I will devote my passion and efforts to our socialist country in which all the people live like members of one family."

Postwoman Who Recovered Her Eyesight

Recently, old Paek Ok Bo, a merited postwoman of Tongchang County Post Office left the North Phyongan Provincial General Hospital amid the warm send-off by medical officials.

She was so impressed that she could not leave the hospital readily.

During the past few months Paek’s eyesight had been failing little by little and she regarded it as an infirmity of old age. So she made a phone call to Ko Myong Su, a department manager of the North Phyongan Provincial General Hospital.

At that time the manager repeatedly said to her that she needed hospital treatment and he would treat her eye trouble, who has worked as a postwoman for all her life.

Thus, Paek Ok Bo entered the hospital and received an operation. At the hospital Paek keenly felt the benevolence of our system.

The medical officials of the hospital used to serve her with special dishes and took good care of her. Also, the officials of the North Phyongan Provincial Posts and Telecommunications Management Bureau visited her frequently and took care of her.

Thanks to such warm love and affection Paek Ok Bo came to recover her eyesight.

Leaving the hospital, she made a decision to work devotedly.
