The Chollima Statue was unveiled on April 15, Juche 50 (1961) on the occasion of the 49th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

The President planned to erect a monument showing the heroic feature of our people who performed miracles and innovations amid the flames of the Chollima upsurge throughout the country. In April, Juche 48(1959), while going round the then Moranbong Park under construction, he instructed to erect a statue symbolizing the Chollima era on Mansu Hill.

Thanks to his energetic leadership and vigorous struggle of builders, the Chollima Statue was successfully built to demonstrate the heroic stamina and latent energy of the Korean people.

The Chollima Statue symbolizing the legendary Chollima era and the heroic people of the times encourages our people’s struggle for opening up the period of overall development of socialist construction.
