The monument, situated in the township of Yonan County, South Hwanghae Province, was erected in the early 17th century in commemoration of the victory in the battle in Yonan Fort during the Imjin Patriotic War(1592-1598).
During the war, our people organized patriotic volunteers’ corps in various parts of the country and fought hard to defeat the Japanese invaders.
Among them was a volunteers’ corps led by Ri Jong Am who beat the enemy mercilessly and defended the Yonan Fort to the last.
The monument is incised with the historical fact at that time.
A black-marble monument stone is on the 2-storied rectangular footstone made of granite.
It is told that the epigraph on the monument was written by Ri Hang Bok, a famous writer of those days.
The monument to the great victory in the battle in Yonan Fort is a precious historical relic of national treasure together with the monument to the victory in the battle in the northern area of Korea showing the victory of our people in the struggle to defeat the foreign aggressors.
