In recent years, several coal mines and mines have introduced a method of estimating stability of pillars and roof of stope.
The method which was developed by scientists of Phyongsong University of Coal Mining, in cooperation with scientists, technicians and officials of other units, is a valuable technology for increasing coal and mineral production.
The scientists of Phyongsong University of Coal Mining including Candidate Academician, Prof. and Dr. Choe Jong Su of the Coal Mine Engineering Faculty have carried out the research to solve the problem which was urgently needed, pooling their wisdom and enthusiasm with technicians and officials of various mines and coal mines.
In the course, they have created the method of estimating stability of pillars and roof of stope and solved other technical problems. One of them is estimating stability of pillars after improving instable pillars by adding artificial pillars made of muck.
As a result, they have established a method for mining all relict minerals and a technical course for mining coal of low seam, thus providing a scientific and technological guarantee for increasing production while tapping the mineral resources to the maximum.
The technology which is greatly profitable has been introduced in different units and pays off. It was registered as a national scientific and technological success.
The technology is introducible to mines with longwall ore mining system and soft coal mines.
