In the DPRK, greening is regarded as an important work for beautifying streets, villages and workplaces and providing people with clean ecological environment and cultural and emotional living conditions.

The Pyongyang Turf Institute has striven to breed new strains of ornamental grasses and spread them across the country.

The institute bred various kinds of ornamental grasses with strong vitality suited to the climatic and soil conditions of the country and registered them as new national species, thus opening up a prospect for making the greening more diverse and peculiar.

Its researchers are now working hard to breed many more ornamental grasses and send them to every district of Pyongyang Municipality, major construction sites and afforestation units across the country.
