Mt Jangsu is situated between Jaeryong County and Sinwon County in South Hwanghae Province.

The name of the mountain derives its origin from the story that the people living in the surroundings of the mountain enjoy longevity as the air is fresh, water is clean and tasty and a lot of effective medicinal herbs grow in the mountain.

Mt Jangsu is called differently according to the beautiful sceneries of four seasons.

In spring the mountain is called "Hongaksan(red mountain)", for it is decorated with red azaleas and royal azaleas. In summer it is called "Chongaksan(green mountain)", for it is covered with green foliage. In autumn it is called "Phungaksan" and in winter is called "Paekaksan".

Chairman Kim Jong Il visited several times the mountain to provide our people with better cultural resort.

The mountain turned into a famous one for the people in the era of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

It has a lot of gorges, high steep precipices, mysterious rocks and cliffs, oddly shaped stones and natural caves.

From a long time ago, Mt Jangsu is called Hwanghae Kumgang. Mt Kumgang might be called "king" in the eastern mountainous area and Mt Jangsu "queen" in the western flat area.

Mt Jangsu has Pojok Peak, Sokdong Peak, Jangsu Peak, Rokjok Peak, etc. and Sesim Fall, Yaksu Fall and other noted places.

There are also historic relics showing peculiar architecture of our ancestors.

The mountain has a number of trees such as Jangsu hackberry, Jangsu Forsythia densiflora, pine tree, ash tree, Mongolian oak, maple and pine-nut tree.

In particular, Jangsu Forsythia densiflora was registered as a living monument and is being protected and increased.

Typical historic relics there are Jangsusan Fort and Hyon Hermitage.

The mountain draws a lot of people, conveying stories of the warm loving care shown by Chairman Kim Jong Il.
