Hwanghae Province is the leading granary in our country. The region is also alongside with the West Sea of Korea and produces plenty of marine products.

So the region has been famous for cereal foods and seafood dishes from ancient times.

Haeju boiled rice with assorted mixtures (meats, bean curd, mushroom, parsley, bellflower root, bracken and toasted laver) is the first one among special foods of Hwanghae Province.

There are many peculiar dishes such as Yonan glutinous rice-cake, coriander kimchi, Chwiya noodles, Jangyon twist of bread, cake made of glutinous Indian millet and Sinwon steamed rice-cake.

Ongjin toasted laver, blue crabs pickled in vinegar, steamed rock fish, pan-broiled top shells are popular even now.
