The Korean People’s Army (KPA) was founded on February 8, Juche 37 (1948).

That day all the Korean people were filled with boundless joy and emotion. It was because they had been subjected to the miserable lot of an enslaved nation for 40-odd years as they had no powerful army. Thanks to the founding of the KPA, our people came to realize their century-old desire.

In Pyongyang, there took place a parade of the KPA, the regular revolutionary armed forces, which came into being for the first time in the nation’s history of 5 000 years, in the presence of President Kim Il Sung, an ever-victorious iron-willed commander and an outstanding strategist.

The media made special mention of the looks of people from all walks of life who broke into cheers of "hurrah!" looking up to the President, the founder of the KPA, and of the majestically marching columns of the military parade.

According to historical data, people from different parts of the country offered warm congratulations to the servicepersons.

Rodong Sinmun said in an article on February 13, 1948 that a worker sent his factory product in token of congratulation, a poet wrote a poem singing of the trust and love shown by all the people to the members of the KPA, an artist displayed a painting and women presented works embroidered with five-colored threads to express their national delight and emotion.

Receiving such warm-hearted supplies from the civilians, the servicepersons vowed to fight bravely for the country and the people to the last drop of their blood.

Over the past 76 years since then, the KPA has safeguarded the socialist country, the Party and the revolution with arms as the main force of the national defence and performed heroic feats for the prosperity of the DPRK
