The Agricultural Land and Resource Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science in the DPRK has focused its efforts on developing technology for improving soil in a physic-chemical and biological way in establishing research goals for improving the fertility of all paddy and non-paddy fields across the country.
The institute has directed efforts to boosting production so as to improve tens of thousands of hectares of paddy and non-paddy fields this year on the basis of the research into soil improvement last year and has conducted research into further increasing the effectiveness of improvement.
It is also directing efforts to conducting the soil survey and analysis of all farmlands across the country in a responsible manner and expanding and to introducing new methods of analysis.
Researchers of the land resources survey and evaluation office set a goal to introduce into North Phyongan and North and South Hamgyong provinces the method of estimating the physical and chemical properties of soil through satellite image interpretation, which contributed to increasing the per-hectare grain yield by introducing it into North and South Hwanghae provinces last year, and pool their collective wisdom to solve the scientific and theoretical problems arising in increasing the accuracy of property estimation.
Meanwhile, a progress has been made in developing soil-improvement technology capable of increasing per-hectare yield in tideland.
