Scientists at the Electricity Institute under the State Academy of Sciences in the DPRK developed a more efficient metallic oxide lightning arrester and an early-discharge lightning conductor, one of active type.
Since forming a research team for developing and applying active lightning conductors with various functions and modern lightning arresters and breakers in Korean ways to suit the specific conditions of the DPRK, the institute has pushed forward with the researches.
Scientists of the high voltage engineering research group succeeded in developing an efficient early-discharge lightning conductor in a Korean way by solving a sci-tech problem arising in the research and manufacture of the early-discharge lightning conductor with high thunderbolt-guiding probability and a large protective radius.
They made tens of early-discharge lightning conductors in cooperation with technicians and officials in the field of electric power industry and introduced them into substations across the country.
The institute is now speeding up the work to apply the early-discharge lightning conductors to more units.
