DPRK Premier Inspects Farms in South Hwanghae Province

Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, inspected the agricultural sector of South Hwanghae Province.

Going round farms in Unryul, Samchon, Ongjin, Kangryong, Jaeryong, Sinchon, Anak and other counties, the premier learned in detail about the overall farming process.

Farming in South Hwanghae Province, the biggest agricultural province of the country, is very important in attaining the national goal for grain production this year, he said, calling on the agricultural production units in the province to meet the scientific and technological requirements in manuring and cultivating crops.

He called for proactively exploring water resources to cope with drought, making an effective use of them, increasing the capacity of pumping facilities, steadily enhancing the operating and utilizing rate of water-jetting equipment, introducing advanced farming methods like mulching cultivation suited to specific conditions and applying various nutrients so as to bring good results in the cultivation of wheat and barley in the latter half of their growth.

He also underlined the need to sow rice and other crops at the right time, breed young rice-plants on a higher sci-tech footing by taking into account the biological characteristics of each rice variety and weather conditions, and urged agricultural scientific research institutes to conduct in a far-sighted way the work for studying and introducing the technology of industrially cultivating rice seedlings.

The field consultative meetings discussed the issue of dynamically conducting the organizational and political work to give fuller play to enthusiasm of the agricultural workers, the issue of finishing the ploughing of paddy and non-paddy fields qualitatively, and the issues for relevant fields and units to ensure the normal operation of farm machines and the production of equipment, materials and accessories needed for irrigation projects.

Meanwhile, the premier visited the construction sites of regional-industry factories in Jaeryong and Unchon counties. He encouraged the soldier-builders who are pushing ahead with the projects as scheduled, while ensuring the speed and quality of the projects simultaneously. He called on officials in the relevant areas to provide a sure guarantee for keeping production going at a high rate by pushing forward with the work for creating raw material bases and training technicians and skilled workers in a far-sighted way.
