Mt Kuwol is one of famous mountains of our country.

Mt Kuwol is situated in South Hwanghae Province.

In the area of Mt Kuwol, there are many historical relics associated with Tangun, the ancestral father of our nation.

It has been called Mt Kuwol (meaning September) as its scenery in September is very beautiful. They say that it has been called Mt Kuwol as it consists of 99 peaks.

Mt Kuwol has big and queer rocks, stiffs, falls, pools and necks of rapids in dense forest, boasting of grandeur and strangeness.

The weather of the area is warm and fine and the amount of precipitation is not little.

Hundreds of kinds of plants, including pine, oak, chestnut, maple and other high trees and shrubs, grow in the area. Among them are large number of edible herbs and medical plants.

Inhabiting there are a lot of kinds of animals and birds, adding beauty to the scenery of Mt Kuwol.

Thanks to the nature conservation policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the area of Mt Kuwol has turned into a cultural recreation area.

The area of Mt Kuwol was registered as World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO (the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
