History 2024.4.26.

Moran Hill in Pyongyang is famous for its beautiful scenery and its historic relics. Among them is Ulmil Pavilion.

It was built in the mid-6th century as the northern command post of the inner walls of Pyongyang.

It was also called Saho Pavilion as it has an open view and therefore, anyone can see the beautiful scenery of Pyongyang at a glance.

It is associated with some legends. One of them says that a god called Ulmil was attracted by the beautiful scenery of Moran Hill and frequently came down to there from heaven to have a rest.

Another legend says that the pavilion was named after General Ulmil, a patriotic general who commanded the battles to defend the country.

From olden times, it was considered as one of the eight scenes of Pyongyang as it commands an excellent landscape in spring.

The pavilion stands on the terrace which is about 11 meters high. It was remodeled in 1714. It shows well the developed architecture of our ancestors.

The terrace looks high, grandiose and safe.

Ulmil Pavilion serves as a pleasant cultural resort and a place for education in patriotism which adds beauty of Moran Hill.
