The Elephant Rock on Pidan Island is a natural monument in Sindo County, North Phyongan Province.

When the 4th Ice Age was over and sea water came into the area of the West Sea of Korea, some rocks on the high hills were exposed on the surface of the sea and eroded and weathered for a long time.

The rock on Pidan Island looks like an elephant; therefore, it is called the Elephant Rock.

Its length is 40m and width of upper part is 8m. The rock is 15 meters high.

The circumference of "nose" of the rock is 9 meters.

On the rock, there is a small rock resembling an ivory of elephant.

The Elephant Rock is sunk or exposed by the tide; when sunk, it looks like an elephant swimming; when exposed, it looks like an elephant in a swamp.

The Elephant Rock on Pidan Island is a natural monument which is of significance in studying natural change since the formation of the West Sea of Korea and also adds beauty to the island.
