Pride of Family with Many Medicinal Trees

Culture 2024.6.28.

There can be found a family called a house with medical trees by villagers in Sokthan-ri, Jaeryong County—it is none other than Ri Yong Sang’s.

Many medical trees and herbs including Crataegus pinnatifida, Schisandra chinensis and Aralia eleta are growing around his house under a hill.

Ri has planted and cultivated the medical trees and herbs for dozens of years after discharge from military service.

Tending them while fulfilling his job was easier said than done.

But he frequently manured the medicinal herbs and trees, exterminated harmful insects at his recess of labor; he would read books relating to raising medicinal trees and herbs to increase the rate of rooting.

Thanks to his devotion, hundreds of medical trees and many medical herbs took root.

True to the Party’s intention to plant many fruit trees in the rural houses, now, he cultivates plum, peach and persimmon trees and other kinds.

Every year his family has reaped a lot of fruits as well as medical herbs.
