Mugi Island is several kilometers away from Sinmi-ri of Sonchon County. Every year a large number of Egretta eulophotes mate on the island between early May and mid-June for breeding and fly towards the south for winter-spending in mid-September.

The island is 750m in length, 200m in width, 1 200m in circumference and 0.16 square kilometers in area.

Wormwood and some shrubs grow on the island. The east, west and south of the island is steep gradient, consisting of mysterious rocks and cliffs.

In about May Egretta eulophotes and other sea birds lay and hatch their eggs on the island.

The sanctuary of Egretta eulophotes is well preserved as natural monument for its scenic beauty and significance of ecology study.
