 The Progenitor Apple Tree grows in Ryongjon-ri, Pukchong County which is noted for its apples.

When visiting Ryongjon-ri in October of Juche 48(1959) President Kim Il Sung said that the apple tree is the progenitor of apple trees not only in Ryongjon-ri but also in our country. He stressed the need to take care well of the tree so that it can bear apples for over 100 years.

Chairman Kim Jong Il also visited Ryongjon-ri in June Juche 91(2002). He said it was good to carefully preserve the Progenitor Apple Tree to convey the leadership exploits of the President to the rising generation.

The Progenitor Apple Tree is over 100 years old and it grows in thick verdure.

The girth of its root neck is 1.2m and the width of its crown is 6m. The tree blossoms in May.

The Progenitor Apple Tree is the oldest one in our country and a precious living monument with significance of research into characters of species.
