Labor Hero Who Became an Honorary Farmer

During an interview, we met an old man on the field of work-team No. 6 of the Migok Farm in Sariwon City.

He was encouraging farmers with foods and daily necessaries he brought by knapsack in spite of his great age.

He was Rim Chang Won, an old man living in the people’s neighborhood unit No. 62 in Ryugyong-dong, Sariwon City.

There is a reason why Rim, a war veteran and labor hero, became a family member with farmers.

Early in May, an official came to see him when his health was getting better after a long medical treatment.

The official advised Rim to go to a scenic sanatorium to receive rehabilitation treatment as he had done a great deal of work for the country in the past period, giving a rehabilitation ticket to him.

But Rim could not take it willingly because he remembered the officials and doctors who would visit him lest he should feel inconvenience in his life and health while calling him the war veteran and labor hero, as well as grateful neighbors who carried the special dishes to him.

It was not a simple feeling between Rim and some officials, doctors and close neighbors.

It was a benefit granted by our grateful state and genuine looks of our harmonious society.

Therefore, he decided to go to the countryside about which the Party was so concerned, not to the sanatorium, and to devote all his life to solving the food problem of the country.

Since then, he has taken the initiative in helping the affairs arising in the work-team as his own household work, and in those days, he became familiar with the members of the work-team as one family and anhonorary farmer of the work-team.

Work Which Brooks No Delay

One day in June last, members of the repair and maintenance work-team under the Hamhung Facilities Construction Station were going to return home at the construction site after finishing the day’s work.

By the way, Kim Son Il, work-team leader, was not invisible anywhere.

Thinking that he would look round the construction site as before, they waited for him but Kim did not appear.

After a long search, they were able to find him in a dim place.

Seeing him who was working hard into a pit without consciousness of their approaching, they could guess that he was engrossed in the preparation work for welding pipe.

At that time a member entered the pit unable to stand by as a mere spectator saying that it might be done next morning.

The others drew him by the hand noting that if Kim overworked himself every day, he would break down.

However he continued to work, answering that the building was a burden they had shouldered by themselves for the convenience of the inhabitants: if it was competed the people would benefit from it; so he could never postpone the work to the next day.

All the people were touched by sincerity of the work-team leader devoting himself to his job as a meritorious person of socialist patriotism.

That evening the work-team members worked sweating for a long time to keep up with the preparations while examining what they had to do next day.

Although it was not a big work showing their result, their faces were full of pride that they did one more work for the inhabitants of the city.

Unassuming Devotion

Days ago the primary Party committee of the South Phyongan Provincial Cooperative Fisheries Management Committee received a letter conveying good deed of an employee.

The letter says that a woman working at the South Phyongan Provincial Cooperative Fisheries Management Committee visited the construction site of regional industry factories in Songchon County with assistance materials and soon left there without giving her name. The letter values highly her deed and asks the Party committee for appreciating her.

The primary Party committee official who received a letter guessed at once that the heroine of the letter is Kang Yong Sun, a worker of seafood shop.

In the past days the Party committee received such letters from officials of the baby homes and orphanages in the province and builders at the major projects construction sites. And the master of the letters was none other than Kang Yong Sun and so is this letter’s.

When the primary Party official asked her why she reported nothing to the Party organization, Kang Yong Sun said that she performed it out of eagerness to contribute even a little to the construction of regional factories to be built in her province.

Indeed, she always keeps in her mind the true heart to do even a good deed for the country.
