It has been 10-odd years since the family of An Sung Ho living in Tonghan-ri in Koksan County began to produce electricity by installing a water mill in valley stream which flows near his house.
What was the most badly needed was the electricity when An and his wife first got to the place.
So they decided to solve the electricity problem by themselves.
Thus they built a head of about 1 meter by turning valley stream to the yard.
It was difficult for them to do so, but they did not give up.
Finally, the electricity was produced at the power station which was built by their own efforts.
From that time on, An’s family is provided with lighting and enjoys cultural and emotional life without the state electricity.
That’s not all.
The water that falls down when the water mill turns gathers in a small pond in the yard, which enables them to breed fish. It was, indeed, killing two birds with one stone.
They would always say to visitors that electricity can be produced ably even with a little effort: they are planning to produce more electricity by solving technical problems, adding that:
"If you do just as the Party instructs you, everything will go well."
The bright light of the mountain village reflects the pure conscience of the citizens who want to give more benefits to the country’s economic life.
