The coal-industry sector is pushing ahead with the construction of low-temperature dry distillation furnace of brown coal with a high capacity.

The new lignite low-temperature dry distillation furnaces to be built in the coal fields in the northern area rich in lignite reserves is helpful in putting the independence and Juche character of the metal and chemical industries onto a higher level.

Officials of the Ministry of Coal Industry worked out a plan to increase the production of semicoke output sharply and send it to the iron bases. As part of the first process, they decided to build several lignite low-temperature dry distillation furnaces with a much greater capacity of processing lignite in the Kyongwon Area Coal Mining Complex.

The ministry has entrusted the construction to the Kyongwon Technology Development Center which has experience in the construction of a dry furnace and provided necessary conditions while minutely organizing to ensure that the complex positively help the center to manufacture and install equipment and steel structures. Senior officials of the ministry go to the spot to learn about the construction and take necessary measures to speed up the construction.

The technical team of the Kyongwon Technology Development Center, in close contact with relevant institutions including the May 28 Metal Institute under the Ministry of Metal Industry and the Hamhung Chemical Designing Institute, is directing primary efforts to making designs in our own way, not relying on the existing formula. In particular, it is solving knotty technical problems while strengthening technical exchange and cooperation with the research groups of Kim Chaek University of Technology and Hamhung University of Chemical Engineering.

The workers and technicians engaged in the construction have removed a large amount of earth in a short span of time and are hastening the foundation work at the final stage while making full use of the past successes and experience.

At the same time, they are solving the shortage of materials by their own efforts and technology and pressing ahead with the manufacture of equipment and steel structures in a three-dimensional way.

Meanwhile, the Kyongwon Area Coal Mining Complex is rendering material and moral assistance to the construction by mobilizing technical and construction forces.
