 Devotion to Green Forest

Whoever visits the tunneling pit of the Unpha Mine admires the surprising view of a smart two-storey building for cultural welfare with a rooftop resting place, peculiar greenhouses and animal sheds.

What gives them bigger impression are the numerous trees which have taken root in the nearby mountain.

The mountain was once covered with waste rocks from the mine.

But Song Kwang Chol, the manager of the pit, and other officials and employees of the pit transformed it in response to the call of an official of the mine to turn the heap of waste into terraced fields.

The officials and employees of the pit still remember what Song said over ten years ago when they built terraced fields and planted trees for the first time:

When these trees grow into a thick forest, our native place will become better to live in.

They devoted all their sincerity to taking care of young saplings.

They built a tree nursery on the vacant land near the pit and cultivated various kinds of tree saplings by their own efforts to move them to the mountain every year.

Today, the trees have struck strong roots and grown tall to add much to the beauty of the surroundings.

This spring, too, they have planted lots of trees including Evodia daniellii Benn and persimmon trees.

The thick forest reflects patriotism of the officials and employees of the pit who have made devoted efforts to spruce up their native place and worksite.

Job He Undertook of His Own Accord

Kim Ki Dok, a worker of the Kyongsong Electric Appliances Factory, is regarded as a treasure of the factory, and with good reason.

Once, he was on his way home after ensuring the normal operation of the kiln.

Then, he stopped all of a sudden and fell into deep thoughts.

Now that endeavors were being made at the factory to build a new kiln with which to greatly increase the output, he felt guilty of staying indifferent to that undertaking.

So he went back to the worksite where the kiln construction was at its height.

He worked by the sweat of his brow to help the builders and, at the same time, learned what he could do for the kiln construction.

From that time onward, he studied necessary technical books and data till late at night.

It was not easy for him to do so as he had his own stuff to do.

However, he actively devised and introduced several valuable techniques with a determination not to give up halfway what he was doing for the sake of the factory.

Thanks to such painstaking efforts, he made and introduced 120-odd worthful technical innovation achievements and distinguished himself as a must person of the factory, a treasure of the factory.

Even today, he does his best to solve the technical problems arising in the factory, regarding it as his own job.

On Road of Devotion

At the site of third-stage construction of 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area, you can hear about a woman respected and followed by all the soldier-builders. She is Ri Yong Ae, who works at Chongryu Restaurant. She has been making devoted efforts for the soldier-builders for tens of years.

While working with the soldier-builders and providing them with aid materials, she keenly realized that, by doing so, she could make contributions for the future of Pyongyang and repay the benevolence of the country.

Therefore, she began to raise domestic animals and send them to soldier-builders in the period when the country was undergoing hardship.

She also prepared other materials for them.

She felt happiest when she sent the soldiers materials she had prepared.

It was not just because she was a member of a soldier’s family that she has devoted sincerity for the soldier-builders for tens of years.

Her kindred devotions to the soldiers engaged in the capital city construction were rather attributable to her ardent love for Pyongyang, her native place.

Not long ago, the Party highly appreciated her deeds so that everyone might know about them.

She keeps on the road of devotion to the soldier-builders in order to repay the benevolence of the Party.
