There are a zelkova and two gingko trees in Songgyungwan-dong, Kaesong Municipality. They are precious ones registered as living monuments and preserved together with historic relic Songgyungwan.
Zelkova at Songgyungwan was planted in about 1490. Its height is 30.5m, girth of its root neck 8m and width of its crown is 22m.
Zelkova at Songgyungwan is one of the old zelkova trees in our country.
Meanwhile, two gingko trees at Songgyungwan are male ones. One gingko lives in the east of Songgyungwan and the other in the west.
The height of the gingko tree in the east is 31.5m, girth of its root neck 6.3m and width of its crown 20m and the height of the gingko tree in the west is 33.7m, girth of its root neck 6.7m and width of its crown 28.7m.
Even now the zelkova tree and gingko trees in fine conditions add beauty to the landscape of Songgyungwan, historic relic of the Koryo, proving the validity of our Party’s policy on protecting living monuments.
