Nyongbyoncholong Fort

Nyongbyoncholong Fort is located in North Phyongan Province of the DPRK.

The fort was built in the period of Koguryo dynasty and reinforced thereafter. It consists of four partial walls; Main Wall, Yaksan Wall, Sin Wall and Puk Wall.

Yaksan and Main walls were built in the period of Koguryo dynasty; Sin Wall in 1683, the period of feudal Joson dynasty; Puk Wall in 1684.

The length of the walls is about 20 kilometers in total. The length of Main Wall is about 14 kilometers; Yaksan Wall, about 1 kilometer; Sin Wall, about 3 kilometers; and Puk Wall, about 2 kilometers. The height of the walls is generally 3.5 meters.

The fort is associated with many stories about the Korean people’s struggle against the foreign invaders.

The fort shows the wisdom and talents of Korean nation and is well preserved as a precious cultural treasure of the country.
