Magnolia is the national flower of the DPRK. It shows well the spirit of Korean people.

In May, Juche 53(1964) President Kim Il Sung visited the Mt Jongbang and recollected with emotion a beautiful white flower he had seen at his childhood.

Afterwards the flower was discovered thanks to Chairman Kim Jong Il. The President saw the flower and set it as the national flower of the DPRK.

Magnolia is beautiful and fragrant and therefore our people love it and cultivate it widely.

They plant it a lot in the places not only the revolutionary battle sites and revolutionary sites but also streets, parks and schools.

Magnolia grows well in places of relatively much damp like deep mountains or valleys in our country excluding the northern highland.

Magnolia of Mt Jongbang is 2.1 meters high and is 10 centimeters round at its root neck. Its crown width is 2 meters.

Magnolia of Mt Jongbang is a precious living monument which adds beauty to landscape of the mountain.
