Hyon Hermitage in Mt Jangsu, Pride of Nation

History 2024.9.24.

Among cultural heritages of our nation is Hyon Hermitage in Mt Jangsu.

Hyon Hermitage is a small temple situated on a rock in high cliff between Jaeryong County and Sinwon County of South Hwanghae Province.

It was built before the 10th century and the present building was rebuilt in the first period of the feudal Joson dynasty.

Hyon Hermitage is the gabled house with double eaves. Its front is six kans(11.2m) and its side is three kans(6.35m).

It was painted red and blue, which matches well with the beautiful scenery of the famous mountain.

Hyon Hermitage in Mt Jangsu is well preserved thanks to the policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea on protecting our national heritage.
