Today, when we are making a vigorous advance to confidently open a new golden age of strengthening the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and an era of achieving the comprehensive rejuvenation of the state, we are greeting the 98th founding anniversary of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU).

The Down-with-Imperialism Union was a pure, fresh political organism of a new type created in the throes of a historic cause by young people of the rising generation who aspired to socialism and communism, for the realization of national liberation and class emancipation with the ideal of anti-imperialism, independence and sovereignty.
The immediate task of the DIU was to defeat Japanese imperialism and achieve the liberation and independence of Korea, and its final objective was to build socialism and communism in Korea and, further, destroy all imperialism and build communism throughout the world.
The formation of the DIU served as a starting-point and root of the cause of building the Juche-type revolutionary party. From this root came the programme of our Party, the principles for building our Party and its activities, and the backbone for its foundation.
The programme of the DIU and the principle of independence became the guidelines of our Party’s building and activities and the tradition of unity with the leader at the center and comradeship became the source of inexhaustible strength of our Party.
For a long period of nearly a century since the formation of the DIU our people keenly realized that the key to emerging ever-victorious and the bright future lies in inheriting the great tradition of the DIU in which the path of our revolution and fundamental principle are indicated and the ideological and spiritual wealth the Juche-oriented revolutionaries should keep are crystalized.
Today, the Workers’ Party of Korea inherits the glorious tradition of the DIU and holds the respected Comrade
