Mt Myohyang is famous in the world for beauty of its natural scenery and there are a lot of the precious national heritage showing creative talent and cultural development of our nation.

Among them is Pohyon Temple fully showing the distinguished architecture and excellent artistry of our ancestors.

Pohyon Temple consists of buildings in its district and 30-odd old buildings including Sangwon Hermitage, Nungin Hermitage and Habiro Hermitage.

Pohyon Temple was built first in 1042.

During the Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War), its main building Taeung Hall and over 10 buildings and thousands of legacies there were destroyed by the barbarous bombings of the U.S. imperialists.

Later, the Myohyangsan History Museum was built and Taeung Hall, Manse Pavilion and other structures were restored to their former states thanks to the noble patriotism of President Kim Il Sung and the policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea on protecting the national heritage.

Pohyon Temple serves as a good place for visits, in which the complete collection of Buddhist Scriptures printed from 80 000 wooden blocks and many other mementos are well preserved.
