An Ordinary Worker Can Become Excellent Poet

2024.11.2.

Not long ago, the result of the national lyric poem prize contest held in celebration of the 76th founding anniversary of the DPRK was made public.

We were surprised because most of those who took the first and second places in the contest are ordinary workers and farmers.

This single fact shows clearly the benevolence of the socialist country which gives priority to the working people and cultivates their talents into excellent fruits.

Among the workers who came first in the contest is Kim Kang Chol from the Pyongyang Chemical Building Materials Factory.

He, with a working career of tens of years, is a literature correspondent in his fifties.

When he started work after discharge from military service, he decided to devote his all to remaining faithful to the Party’s intention.

He became the treasure of the factory and was highly appreciated by the factory.

This further implanted in his mind love for labor and the pride of living in a benevolent society which values diligent service.

Gifted in literary creation, he became zealous to reflect the benevolence of the system and worth of life in his work.

He buckled down to writing poems eulogizing the great love and benevolence of the Party with great passion.

He regarded it as a pride to have become a literature correspondent and reflected the vibrant realities of the times in his poems.

Thanks to such efforts, he could present a beautiful poem to the contest.

Choe Hak Rim, a worker of the Namyang Salt Works who took the first place in the contest, is also a beloved worker poet.

According to Choe, those who discovered talent in him and encouraged him were none other than the officials of the salt works and creation guidance members of the South Phyongan Provincial Committee of the Writers Union.

Also cherishing gratitude to the socialist system in their hearts are Han Ji Song, worker of the Myohyang Electronic Goods Factory, Ri Ji Yong, worker of the Rason Railway Bureau, Im Hong Yon, worker of Kim Il Sung University, Kang Chol Un, farmer of the Jonjin Farm in Rangnang District and Kim Chol Min, farmer of the township farm in Yonthan County.

Indeed, our benevolent motherland which discovers and cultivates the people’s talents is an eternal cradle which lets beautiful songs of life ring out endlessly.
