The Kuryong Rock of Mt Kumgang overlooks some large and small circular pools, linked each other; big eight pools among them are called Sangphal Pools above Kuryong Falls on Mt Kumgang, a world-famous mountain.

Some pine trees, pine nut trees, maple trees, etc. are growing on the slopes in the valley to add beauty to the pools in every season.

The pools is associated with a legend of eight fairies of Mt Kumgang that in olden times eight fairies descended from the heaven to the ground and took a bath, to be charmed by its beautiful landscape and clean water.
