Enlarged plenary meetings of the Party committees at the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Land and Maritime Transport, the Pyongyang Construction Commission, the State Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports were held to carry out the decisions of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

Present there were members and alternate members of the Party committees of those units and, as observers, officials concerned.

The plenary meetings analyzed and reviewed in detail the last year’s work for implementing the Party’s decisions and seriously discussed the measures for perfectly carrying out the tasks facing each sector and unit this year on the basis of the important orientation of struggle set forth at the plenary meeting of the WPK Central Committee.

Reports were made at the plenary meetings.

The reporters stressed the need for all Party organizations and officials to enhance to the maximum their role as an organizer and executor in arousing the Party members and other working people to the struggle for implementing the plan and determination of the Party Central Committee and to push ahead with the successful implementation of the fighting programme of the WPK.

They indicated detailed tasks and ways for the Party organizations at all levels to defend the 80th birthday of the WPK and its 9th Congress with the successful fulfillment of the five-year-plan.

The plenary meeting of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Railways stressed the need to concentrate the operation and guidance on fully meeting the demands of the national economy for transport by vigorously pushing ahead with the modernization of railways and waging a vigorous drive for increased transport capacity.

The plenary meeting of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Land and Maritime Transport discussed the measures to improve the capacity of harbor facilities and the performance of cargo ships and boost their operation and increase the capacity of transport by land.

The plenary meeting at the Pyongyang Construction Commission discussed the issue of vigorously conducting the Party’s organizational and political work with the main emphasis put on completing major construction projects, taking a strong step to improve the quality of construction and modernizing, readjusting and reinforcing the production lines for building materials while realizing the diversification and home production of finishing building materials this year.

Discussed at the plenary meeting of the Party Committee of the State Academy of Sciences were the measures for scientists to turn out and preferentially settle the sci-tech problems badly necessary for various economic sectors.

The plenary meeting of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Culture discussed the issues of intensifying the creation of masterpieces pulsating with the breath of the times and inspiring the masses and of briskly conducting the mass cultural and artistic activities and raising the level and skills of the guidance officials, creators and artistes.

The plenary meeting of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports dealt with the issues for putting the country’s sports development on a stage of upturn, including raising the scientification level of sports through strengthened Korean-style sports teaching and training and effectively conducting in various forms and methods the work for stirring up the enthusiasm for mass sports.

At the plenary meetings, there were sectional consultative meetings for drawing up action plans to thoroughly and perfectly implement the Party’s policies facing the units, on the basis of the tasks set forth at the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth WPK Central Committee.
