Beyond What They Can Do
Ongjin County has directed efforts to education, making a series of successes.
It was last year when the county set a goal to renovate 16 branch schools.
It was a difficult task. Some officials worried about it at the thought of remodeling all branches at once, not one or two, even in the course of concentrating efforts on farming.
At that time a senior official of the county stressed as follows while organizing assignment of work.
We cannot push ahead with such work if we have a view of helping as much as we can. All of us should become parents of pupils and genuine masters of the schools and turn out for remodeling the branches beyond what we can do.
In the wake of this appeal, an additional goal was set up for building a new teachers’ retraining institute in the county.
Since then, the whole county had assisted the schools and the construction of educational projects had been promoted preferentially.
When all the branch schools were renovated and the two-storied county teacher retraining institute was built up till the end of last year, the officials and working people in the county felt once again the pride of having devoted their sweat to the younger generation and how they should help the educational work.
They Visit University before They Are Visited by It
The Musan Mining Complex is an active supporter that always pays deep attention to the work for supporting education.
Now, the mining complex is busy with the campaign for increased production, however, they supports Chongjin University of Mining and Metallurgy. It provided the university with a plenty of productive facilities and educational equipment including electric rock-drills and magnetic concentrators which were needed for experiments and practical training and education.
The leading officials of the mining complex, a month before the month for helping schools, visited the university to inquire what the university needed and provided the requirement in time, and they keep it as a rule to do this.
In a word, helping teachers before being asked for help from them is the working spirit of the leading officials.
When the university officials thanked them, they would say:
"Our mining complex develops as the university education is improved."
Their attitude of giving priority to the education helps the university to improve its material and technical foundation.
They actively support the university which trains its students as able technicians for the complex, and such leading officials can be called genuine officials.
