Ondol is the heating facility peculiar to the Korean nation, which has been developed in conformity with the natural and climate conditions of our country. Ondol is also called Kudul.

Ondol has advantages of preserving heat long and saving fuel or firewood.

Living in the Ondol room promotes circulation of blood and makes people feel refreshed after sleeping. It is also effective against different kinds of diseases.

These days Ondol is popular as people show tendency to rest on the warm floor.

To live in the Ondol room is the custom peculiar to our people.

There are warmer part and upper part in the Ondol room. From olden times our people offer the warmer part to the aged persons and guests. This reflects good custom of respecting the aged and giving warm reception to guests.

The custom of living in the Kudul (Ondol) room has been registered as an intangible cultural heritage of the nation in the DPRK.
